Hello families,

Last week was an exciting week for students in Room 15. Thank you to all families who contributed Box Tops to our classroom. Our class won the Box Top Contest! We had a hot chocolate party on Friday. Our class also won the Behavior Assembly Trophy for excellent behavior during the Star Student Assembly. The students in Room 15 continually impress me with their respectful, responsible, kind behavior as well as their team work.

We are currently working on several art projects for our Annual Art Show, April 19th. Students are working on completing a mixed media collage of an animal. Spring Creek is fortunate to Alex Lanham as an Artist in Residence. He is teaching students portraiture on tiles. I am excited to see all of the students creations!

At the beginning of the year I read the book Wonder aloud to the class. We watched the movie last week. The book and movie focus on a child who is born with a severe facial deformity and his 5th grade experience. The message of both is to “Choose Kind” in all areas of life. We will video chat with a young man, Jonathan Siebert, who has a similar story and has faced similar challenges. It is my hope that students will head into Middle School with empathy and compassion for their peers.

This Friday is Spring Creek’s Spaghetti/Bingo Night starting at 5:30. Tuesday, March 13th we will go to the Hult Center to watch the BEST After School Students perform with the Eugene Symphony. Lastly, please mark your calendars. Spring Break is from 3/26/18-4/2/18. Students will return to school on April 3rd.

Thank you,

         Ms. Reneé

Happy New Year

20171231_170218Hello families!

I hope you all had a wonderful winter break! I’m definitely feeling refreshed and ready for the new year.

Today we started a new Math unit that focuses on the relationship between place value and decimals. During Language Arts we are reading a chapter book called Hound Dog True. This means that there is not any spelling homework for the next two weeks. In writing students will be working on a report about an animal of their choosing. The kids are very excited about this.

This month we have a Star Student Assembly on January 26th at 1:30 p.m.

January 15th is a NO SCHOOL DAY in remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

We just started a new Star Reward Challenge. Students earn a star each day for completing their homework and a star for positive behavior. If students earn 80% of their stars during a given period they get to participate in the star reward. If students meet this goal they will join us on a field trip to Skate World on February 14th. Parents are welcome to join us on this trip. Remember you can check class dojo to see how your child’s behavior is during class time. If a student receives more that 2 dojo deductions during class time they do not receive a behavior star for the day. Homework must be turned in on the due date in order for students to earn a homework star for the day. We are hopeful that all students will be able to participate.

I hope 2018 is off to a great start for you all!

Nov. 13, 2017

Spring Creek is gearing up for conferences. All conferences have been scheduled for either Monday November 20th or Tuesday November 21st. Conference schedules went home last week with weekly reports. Please contact me by phone, email, or class dojo if you need to know your conference date and time.

This week we are continuing to collect potatoes and gravy packets to help with Thanksgiving boxes. If you are able to help please send your child with 5-7 potatoes and 1-2 packets of gravy. Thank you so much to all of you who have already donated. These donations will help the PTO put together food boxes for 35-40 Spring Creek families.

November 16th is a busy day. It is the last day we will collect donations. I hope you all will be able to join us for our annual Harvest Lunch this Thursday from 11:45-12:05. If you plan on attending please fill out the yellow form that was sent home last week or contact me by phone, email, or class dojo.

Students, families, staff and neighbors are encouraged to take part in the district’s North Region Visioning Process at a community engagement event. Attendees will participate in energizing design activities and share their voices to help guide future decisions, as our schools seek to better serve our community’s diverse students and families. These community engagement events are part of 4J’s North Region Visioning Process, a regional focus including an opinion- and idea-gathering process involving North Eugene area parents, students, school staff and community members. The aim is to identify and implement a unified vision for North Region schools in the coming years. The North Region Visioning Process follows on the districtwide 4J Vision 20/20 strategic planning process. Visioning processes in other regions will follow.

  •  SPANISH/ESPAÑOL: Childcare will be available and light meal will be provided! Thursday, November 16  5:30–7:30 PM, River Road/El Camino del Río Elementary School, 120 W. Hilliard Lane.
  • English: Childcare and meal information TBA, Tuesday, December 5, 5:30-7:30 PM, Kelly Middle School, 850 Howard Ave.

I hope that some of you will be able to participate in the visioning process. I look forward to seeing you all at conferences.

Oct. 16, 2017

It is hard to believe it is already the middle of October!
It was great to see so many families at Family Skate Night! This
week in Room 15 we are continuing to work on multiplication
strategies. Spelling words this week consist of words with r-controlled vowels.
The Spring Creek Strings Program still has limited
openings for students who are interested in learning how to
play the violin, viola, cello, or bass. The cost of this year long
program is minimal and scholarships are available. This is a
great opportunity for students to learn to play an instrument.
Please contact me if you are interested in signing your student
Please mark you calendars with the following dates:
Oct. 16 – BEST After School Program Starts
Oct. 26 – Title I Family Math Night 6 p.m.
Oct. 30 & 31- NO SCHOOL
I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Week 3

Time is flying in Room 15! This week marks our 3rd full week in school. Students in Room 15 are a great group of hard working students. We have already received 5 classroom hoorays for respectful, responsible behavior.

This week we have a lot going on. Picture day is Thursday September 28th. We will have our photos taken at 10:45. We also have our first Star Reward this Friday. Students who have earned 80% of their stars for returning homework and have displayed respectful, responsible behavior will participate in our Walking Field Trip to Awbrey Park. At 11:45 we will walk to the park and have a picnic lunch. Students will then have some time to enjoy the park. When we return to the school students will have the opportunity to watch a String Quartet perform.

This year 3rd-5th grade students have the opportunity to participate in the Eugene Symphony’s Strings Program. Students who participate in the program will receive Strings lessons for one hour, two times a week from a professional symphony musician. Instruments include the violin, viola, cello, and stand up bass. The cost of this program is $70 for the entire school year. This price includes the instrument. Scholarships are available for families who need them. Please contact me if you are interested in signing you child up. It is a first come first serve basis.

Lastly, if you have not signed up for ClassDojo, I highly encourage you to. This is a great way to see what is going on in the class, see student behavior points, and individual student portfolios. Contact me for your child’s unique code.

5th Grade

I am so very excited I have the privilege of teaching 5th grade at Spring Creek Elementary this year. Last year was bitter sweet. I was finally pursuing my dream of becoming a certified teacher but that meant I may have to leave my Spring Creek family. As you can well imagine, I was over the moon when a teaching job opened up. I then had to wow the interview committee and prove that I was the right person for the job. I am so grateful that I can continue to work with all of the great staff and students at Spring Creek.

This year the 5th graders will be doing a lot of hard work to get ready for middle school. I will share student work, classroom projects, photos, and other classroom tidbits of their journey through 5th grade on this site. It’s going to be a great year!!
