Last Week Until Winter Break!!

     Room 15’s 2017-18 Sock Exchange

Hello families,

This is our last week of school before Winter Break! I know

most kids are excited about the upcoming break. I am hopeful that

all students will be able to maintain focus and self control until it

begins. Winter Break runs from 12/22/18-1/7/19. Students return

to school Jan. 8th.

In Reading we are continuing to read Hound Dog True. Our

Math focus is multi-digit multiplication strategies. In Science we are

learning about the water cycle. Students are also working on an

opinion paper. This is preparation for persuasive writing which we

will start in January.

We are squeezing every bit of academics into the 1st 4

days of the week. On Friday we will have a fun day. This will

include our Annual Sock Exchange. In order to participate

students need to bring in a pair of new, medium to large, festive

socks. We will then follow the rules of a white elephant gift

exchange. WE will also have our bi-annual Panda Store. This will

give students a chance to spend some of their hard earned Panda

Bucks. Please contact me if you are interested in helping out with

Our Star Reward will also happen on Friday. This is a

technology award. Students who have earned enough stars can

bring in a tech device to play during our reward time. Lastly,

students are trying to earn a P.J. party by earning 2000 Hoorays

by Thursday afternoon. If we make it, students will write it in their

planners. I hope you all have a wonderful Winter Break!!

Solar system silk paintings by Room 15 students

Hello families,

This week is a 3 day week. Due to the shortened week we will not start a new story in Reading. Hence there will not be any spelling homework this week. In Math students will take the Volume Unit Assessment. There will be Math homework on Monday and Tuesday. In writing we are working on conventions and opinion writing. In Science we will continue to focus on the solar system.

As an AVID (Achievement Via Independent Determination) school our goal is to teach kids systems and routines that will lead to academic success. One of the main systems and routines we use is the student binder and planner. Organization and planning is a key component to the AVID Program. Everyday students write in their planners, listing what they did in class, what homework is due, and upcoming events. Every morning planners are checked for signatures. If you have not already, please help you child develop a routine around reviewing their planners and getting it signed everyday.

Our PTO is putting together Thanksgiving boxes for Spring Creek families. If you are able to, please send in a bag of potatoes and dinner rolls. The PTO has also organized our Giving Tree. If you are interested in participating you will find the tree just inside the office door. I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend.

Hello families,

I hope you all were able to enjoy the long weekend. I enjoyed the opportunity to meet with the families who were able to make it to parent teacher conferences. I hope everyone felt the time was used wisely and the information was helpful. If you were unable to make it to your scheduled conference time I would still like to speak to you. Please contact me if you are interested in either scheduling a meeting before or after school or scheduling a phone conference. You will find my contact information at the bottom of this page. You may also send me a message through class dojo.

Even though students have had 5 days off we a jumping right back into our full schedule and routine. In Spelling this week we are focusing on homophones. These may require a little more practice than usual. In Reading we will continue to focus on non-fiction informational text. In Math students will finish our unit on volume and take the Unit Assessment.

Thursday November 15th I will be out observing an AVID Showcase School and have a substitute fill in for me. Thursday is also Science Night from 6-7 p.m. Come join the Spring Creek team and see how science is being taught in the classroom.

Hello families,

This week in Room 15 students will continue to learn about Volume. We will start our Volume City project later this week. Look forward to pictures on Class Dojo. In Spelling our focus is r controlled vowels. The story of the week is “Quest for the Tree Kangaroo”. Students will have Spelling and Math homework Monday through Thursday. Students may not know how to solve all of the problems on their Math homework. We correct these sheets in class and talk about the strategies used to solve each. I would like students to give each problem their best effort. If they do not know how to solve it they can circle it.

Next week is a busy week at Spring Creek. On Oct. 31st we have our annual Pumpkin Parade. Students can bring in a decorated pumpkin in the morning. The pumpkins will be displayed in the breezeway and all students will have an opportunity to vote on their favorite.  Please avoid any decorations that resemble weapons. Nov.1st all Cookie Dough orders are due and is also picture retake day.

Last week we started using and app called SeeSaw. Seesaw is an app that allows students to share their work and allows you to see it. Please see invitation that is attached

I hope you all have a wonderful week.

Welcome to 5th Grade

I hope you all have had a wonderful summer!  I’m coming into this school year refreshed and rejuvenated. My family and I had a fun filled summer packed full of family time. We spent two weeks in Kauai, Hawaii and a week in Island Park, Idaho. Seeing the NaPali Coast has always been on my bucket list. This is a picture of my family and I sailing by the NaPali coast this summer.

Our time in Eugene was spent at swimming, rafting, and kayaking. I also managed to squeeze in some canning and painting as well.

I am so very excited to start my second year as a certified teacher at Spring Creek Elementary! I know this year is going to be full of learning and growth.  I have posted Room 15’s schedule under the schedule tab. Our day is a little longer ending at 2:25. Early release is now on Fridays at 1:10. I also have a link to my Parent/Guardian Questionnaire under the Parent/Guardian tab. Please take a moment to complete this form.

This year the 5th graders will be doing a lot of hard work to get ready for middle school. I will share student work, classroom projects, photos, and other classroom tidbits of their journey through 5th grade through Class Dojo. Class Dojo is an app that you can download onto any phone or tablet or access through a computer. I will send home a unique code for you to log into you child’s account. This allows us to keep pictures and information private. Class Dojo also allows me to award points for behavior and classroom participation. I have found most students love earning points when there is parent/guardian buy in. You can get onto class dojo and quickly see what kind of day your child had. It is also a quick easy communication tool.

Weekly reports are sent home on Mondays. The weekly report includes a record of students work completion, behavior points, and classroom/school news. Please take a moment each Monday evening to read the report, sign it and have your student return it on Tuesday.

Some upcoming events are our Ice Cream Social on September 4th at 1 p.m. This is a great time to check out Room 15, meet me and the Spring Creek staff as well as drop off supplies. Our Open House is on September 27th at 6 p.m. I hope to see you all there!
